Kevin Mascarenhas is a songwriter and musician who writes music to religious text giving new life to ancient teachings.
Based in Sydney, Australia, Kevin’s latest project is reinvigorating Psalms giving his listeners a deeper connection to the words they have heard many times prior, or perhaps even hearing them for the first time. During the lockdowns in Sydney, Kevin streamed some of these Psalms via nature-themed music videos to connect with parishioners from their homes.
Kevin draws influence from artists who combine great guitar playing with storytelling lyrics such as James Taylor and Mark Knopfler.
A multi-skilled musician, performer, and producer, Kevin has produced commissioned work for educational organisations and tech companies and has performed extensively throughout NSW and ACT with various musical acts.
Born in Uganda, Idi Amin’s regime resulted in his family fleeing to Australia via their ancestral home of Goa, India. His background however is from Goa, which was colonised by the Portuguese in the early 1500s, bringing with them the Mascarenhas name (Masca – renus).
From early on, Kevin witnessed the power of deep faith and so began his spiritual journey playing guitar and singing in the local youth group. He went on to form and continues to lead Harvest music group, providing liturgical music, including the musical creation and singing of Psalms, for the local parish.
Following the release of Grant Us Your Salvation in December 2021, Kevin released Vineyard of the Lord in May 2022 and is planning to release tracks from his Psalm project throughout 2022 to continue to connect people to their faith.
